Jamestown

Jamestown, Virginia was the first permanent English settlement in America. Explorers landed on the banks of the James River in 1607, 13 years before the Mayflower arrived at Plymouth Rock. The history of the city is told through the many gallery exhibits and outdoor living history museums.

Jamestown is a great place for families because schools are nationally ranked. Jamestown High School even received a Gold Medal for Best High Schools by U.S. News and World Report. That’s just one of the reasons people choose to call Jamestown home.

Interactive expeditions and living history museums are among a few of the favorite sites in Jamestown. Historical interpreters decked out in full costume happily bring Jamestown visitors back through time, sharing stories about what the town was like 400 years ago and how early settlers used to live their lives. History buffs and families alike enjoy hopping aboard life size replicas of the three ships that sailed from England to Virginia in 1607, bringing the history of Jamestown to life for residents and visitors today.
